Travel Guide to 2 Weeks Italy

Italy, Italy, Italy... You got a hold on me. If you're like me and love old vintage vibes, wine, and incredible beach town views, Italy is for you. My trip was beyond a dream. If you are planning your Italian adventures and looking for the perfect itinerary, look no further. Here is the soul traveler’s guide to 2 weeks Italy…

First, how did I find my flight to Rome? I always in search for the most affordable flights possible. The best places to start are Skyscanner, Hopper, and Scott's Cheap Flights. All of these services are free and easy to use. I ended up finding and amazing deal on Skyscanner from Nashville to Rome (FCO) for less than $700. The average flight time from the USA to Rome is around 7-9 hours depending on your departure city. We flew with AerLingus and had an amazing experience with good food, drinks, and service.

Rome

Once arriving in Rome, grab your bags and head to the place you are staying. There are plenty of taxis available and Uber. It is your choice which service to use based on what you are comfortable with. Uber only offers services in Rome and Milan, and only Uber Black. That means it tends to get a bit expensive using the app (and a bit more inconvenient if you don't have wifi). The taxis offer a flat rate of 48 EURO (~$54 USD) for up to 4 people plus luggage from the airport to anywhere in City Center Roma. The car ride is about 45 minutes from the aiport.

We chose to use Airbnb for both of our stays during this trip. The photo above is of the living room of our 18th century, historical apartment near the Piazza Navona. Here is the link to the specific Airbnb listing. It was walkable to all major spots in Rome and only $130/night. The building itself is a dream. It was built as a monumental building by the Massimo family in the 15th century. Currently it is next to Piazza Navona and the Department of Culture. So you know it is chef’s kiss.

After settling in, go and beat the jet lag with some exploring. If you take a nap, you'll be done for the rest of the day. Fight through it and start your Italian adventures off with a relaxing day of wandering the streets, wine, and all the stops for pizza and pasta. Check out my other blog post about all the bucket list items to do in Rome.

After three days in Rome, we chose to make our way down to Capri! I originally wanted to spend the majority of the rest of the trip on the Amalfi Coast. After doing a ton of research on pricing and the ideal way to explore the coast, and talking with our friends who had been there before, we decided to station ourselves on the island on Capri. Getting to the island was pretty brainless. There are lots of options for getting there. We took a high speed train from Roma Termini (main train station in Rome other than from the airport) to Napoli Termini in Naples. Then took a taxi to the high speed ferry that transported us to HEAVEN!

Now that sounds like a lot of travel and kinda confusing. For a comprehensive list of my suggestions on how to specifically get from point A to point B with instructions on how to book the cheapest and fastest tickets, check out my full Italian itinerary in my shop (coming soon). It is a digital download with links and gives you peace of mind that I have been there and done this exact itinerary. I did my research so I guarantee the $15 is worth not having the headache of planning and researching reputable companies.

Capri

THIS is your view when you get to CAPRI! You will unload onto the dock and head to your accommodations. You can either grab one of their signature open air taxis or take the Funicular (their uphill tram). The one way fares are available for purchase for 3 EURO to the right of the end of the dock.

We used Airbnb again and stayed at the top of the rock near the Piazzetta (city center of Capri). Here is the link for our specific room in Villa Aida. This was a private room of a locally owned bed and breakfast run by Paolo, a Capri native. He provided us with coffee and breakfast every morning, and even helped us phone the local police to help us locate my partner’s missing cell phone. He went above and beyond for us as guests so I would totally recommend this spot.

We spent 5 days on the island, exploring not only the island of Capri, but also ferried to Positano. You'll find these ferries in the same dock as when you first arrived on Capri. Grab your tickets for any ferry you plan to take the day before to make sure you get the specific time you want  These days were some of my favorite of the whole trip. Click here to read all about Capri and get all my suggestions on what to see there.

Positano

After these 5 days, we grabbed the return route of the same way that we got to Capri. Ferry to Naples. Taxi to the train station from the dock. Take the train back to Roma Termini. And then finish out your dream Italian holiday for a couples more days in Rome! We ended up staying in another Airbnb near the Coliseum. PRO TIP: Always make sure that you select a place with air conditioning. We had to change our booking from one apartment to a different one because there was a false listing for air con.

Words cannot explain the beauty of the land, people, water, food, beaches... ugh everything surpassed my most wild imagination. I cannot recommend this trip more! AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR MY RETURN! Enjoy your Italian adventures, wherever they may lead you! ARREVADERCI Y'ALL!
