Why They Should Bring Back Vintage Stewardess Fashion
One of my favorite things to do when I am in a new airport it check out what they have on display. In the Phoenix Airport, I discovered their collection of vintage stewardess dresses and they made me think… “Why don’t we give these ladies and gentlemen modern day fashion outfits like this?!” Which lead me down a rabbit hole and convincing me why they should bring back Vintage Stewardess Fashion.
Whenever I was working in a vintage shop here in Nashville, we acquired a pair of vintage Emilio Pucci designer stewardess pieces. It was super common for airlines to hire designers in the 60’s-70’s to design the patterns for attendant uniforms. Which I think is so rad. Peep one of the pieces SOLD at Black Shag Vintage below. If you wanna learn more about the Pucci uniforms from Braniff Airlines, watch my TikTok here…
If you are intrigued about the topic and ever in New York’s JFK airport, make sure to check out the TWA terminal. When you enter, it feels like you’ve stepped inside a Marvelous Mrs. Maisel episode. The restored mid century design is striking and have a bunch of the vintage outfits on display in their lounge.

The pictures above and below are examples of how you can get a taste for the vintage fashion from the era that everyone dressed up to go flying. Click here for the best travel movies that have fabulous, vintage inspired fashion. I can just hear it now, Frank Sinatra’s “Come Fly With Me” playing in the background while the stewardesses follow the pilot through the terminal.
Catch Me Id you Can and Blow are two of my favorite travel movies, both that include illegal activities on planes. Don’t follow their lead on how to fly but catch some inspiration for your perfect airport outfit for the vintage inspired traveler.
